People always ask me which things or activities they can do together during their family photoshoot. After many family sessions, I can say that having breakfast together is one of the best ones.
Why?
IT ENGAGES THEM ALL:
No matter how old your children are, you can include them in the activity without them feeling awkward or uncomfortable.
YOU CAN SPOIL YOUR LITTLE ONES WITH SOMETHING THEY LOVE TO EAT:
And if you feel like getting messy, they can be part of the cooking process! Pancakes, muffins, croissants… this activity gives you the opportunity to ask your children what they’d like to eat that day.
They’ll feel that they’re in charge, that it was their idea. And that will let them know that the session is about them.
Also, the moment when you sit with them can be fun yet relaxed. You (probably) won’t have to be chasing them, keeping them from falling, telling them that no more jumping on the couch for that day.
FUN, MAGIC, MESSY… YET ORDINARY:
Because it’s something you probably often do together, they don’t get overwhelmed about it: they know what to do, what to expect, they can be themselves and just have a lot of fun.
AND YOU’LL HAVE MEMORIES OF A BEAUTIFUL RITUAL THAT WILL GET LOST OR CHANGE A LOT IN JUST A FEW YEARS.
Life with kids is messy, overwhelming, fun, intense, never routinary, always (a bit) crazy. And even though days feel long, years go super fast and soon we realize they’re not kids anymore.
The little rituals we share as a family change very fast. The way they eat, the way they sleep, what they like to do and how they do it, everything changes from month to month, and sometimes it’s impossible to grasp it all.
The best things you can do during your family photoshoot are the ones you love doing together because those are the ones you’ll miss and yearn for.
OTHER THINGS YOU CAN DO DURING YOUR FAMILY PHOTOSHOOT:
In-home sessions are meant to capture your true essence in a way that feels natural for your family and especially for your children. But they’re not attached to a certain moment of the day and we can also take a walk around the city and visit those places you love.
You can click here to see which moments I think your children will crave when they’re grown and that I think are worth preserving.
But you can also plan simple activities, one is often enough, that you enjoy and aren’t too far from the things you’re children normally do.
WHICH THINGS DO YOU THINK YOUR LITTLE ONES WOULD LOVE TO DO FOR A FAMILY PHOTOSHOOT? AND WHICH ONES YOU THINK YOU’LL CRAVE IN A FEW YEARS?
I’d love to know your thoughts and ideas! Feel free to leave a comment below telling me about things you can do during your family photoshoot, or contact me to know more about my work, I’d loooove to hear from you!
